AQua2 Interpolation analyzes edges to smartly decide on the local interpolation direction. 

Contrast enhancement remaps the pixel values such that small edges are usually more noticeable.  If the scaling is a simple linear scaling then contrast enhancement will most likely NOT affect AQua2 Interpolation too much (i.e.: contrast followed by AQua2 interpolation is the same as interpolation followed by same contrast enhancement).  However, if the contrast is non-linear and it causes local edges to change then contrast enhancement will help.

Also consider:
From an image quality standpoint you will want to adjust the contrast of an image after using the interpolation filter to avoid "haloing".  Haloing occurs at the edges [ e.g. point of high contrast between light and dark areas].  If you apply the filter then adjust the contrast the results will be more aesthetically pleasing.  Keep in mind this primarily holds true if you plan to print the image Projected images will allow for greater flexibility.
